Handbag thieves

Posted Tuesday, November 17, 2009

At 1410hrs on Tuesday 10th November 2009, a female driver was unloading shopping into her car parked on Waitrose car park, Newark, Notts., when she was approached by an "Asian" male asking for directions, he covered the front windscreen of her car with a map and obscured the females view. She became suspicious of this behaviour and then noticed a second male, described as IC1, attempting to steal her handbag which was on the front passenger seat of the car. Both offenders then ran from the scene and made good their escape in a blue VAUXHALL ASTRA car, vrm P226DNP. Later that afternoon a similar incident was reported at Grantham, Lincs.

This is not a new M.O. and is similar to a series where the offenders were sticking posters over the rear window of vehicles on supermarket car parks. The driver would get out of the vehicle to attempt to remove the poster, leaving the vehicle insecure, and end up either having valuables stolen or in some cases the whole vehicle.
